For the role-players among us, the past few years have been quite something since the pandemic began. For many, playing at the table was no longer an option, and they had to turn to alternatives.
During that time, Dungeons & Dragons saw a massive surge online, largely thanks to the service provided by D&D Beyond. For many, it’s surprising that despite its high-quality service, Beyond is actually a third-party tool and the same people often ask: “Why isn’t this the official D&D tool?”
The team at Wizards of the Coast probably asked themselves the same question, because today it has been officially announced that they are acquiring the beloved D&D Beyond!
What exactly this acquisition will mean is not yet clear, but what we do know is that support will not end, and all your existing purchases, creations, characters, campaigns, etc. will remain untouched. D&D Beyond will now become what D&D Insider should have been back in the days of 4th Edition.
Personally, I’m very excited about the potential improvements and integrations this merger may bring!
